About the game

Inspired by games like Dread and A Quiet Year,  PACT is a two-player tabletop role-playing game. It explores the relationship between a powerful, otherworldly entity with designs on influencing the mortal world and a mortal who has agreed to  carry  out those designs in exchange for a boon and a piece of the entity’s power. The mortal is driven by a desire to leave their mark on the mortal world, whether it be directly in line with their patron’s goals or not.

I started working on Pact just as I realized I wanted to lean into the technical/systems side of narrative design instead of pure content generation. Independently developing a self-contained, narrowly-focused role-playing game turned out to be the ideal showcase for both sets of skills.

Documenting the Design Process:

The initial results of the brainstorming session that lead to the development of Pact. The prompt for the session was to simply "define what it is about creating/interacting with narratives that brings you joy".

The next step was to take all of those seemingly disconnected aspects of narrative that "brought me joy", and try to combine them into a cohesive end product. This list is the result of that process of combination and "noodling". All of these ideas came out of randomly combining those aspects that I liked, and adding on a little bit extra to make them make sense.

Adv Seminar-Project Pitch "Pact"

From that list of randomly-generated potential concepts, I took the one I was the most excited about, and fleshed it out into a more formal pitch/overview document.
